Dien Chau is a coastal, densely-populated and rather rich district of Nghe An province. It is lying at 105030′ – 105045′ of the East Longitude and 18020′- 19050′ of the North Latitude with 38 communes and one township. It borders Quynh Luu district in the North, the Cam Industrial Park of Nghi Loc district in the South, Yen Thanh district in the West and the East Sea in the East
The district has big advantages on communication with many national roads passing through. There are 30 kilometres of the national road No1A running from the north to the south of the district. The national road No7A starting from Dien Chau cross-roads connects with Lao neighbouring country through Cau Tre international border gate. The north-south railway runs through the district. The canal of the Le Dynasty originated from Nghi Loc district runs through Bung River (Dien Chau) to the sea. The district has 25 kilometres of coastal lines. All the boats going from the north to the south should pass Dien Chau territorial waters. The Lach Van estuary is the place where trading and fishing boats often call at. Apart from that, the district still has the provincial road No38 connecting the T-junction of the Sy Market to the centre of Yen Thanh district and a network of asphalted roads linking the district centre to all communes.
These railway, waterway and inland roads have not only provided the communication favourableness and goods exchange to the district, but also helped the district in accessing the latest information on the national and international situations.
With a natural area of 30.49 square kilometres, Dien Chau has mountains, forests, rivers, sea, fertile plains providing high output of ground nuts and sesame, which are famous in the country. The district has the potentials on catching and cultivating aquatic products, ranked at the first or second position in the province.
Beside cultivation, Dien Chau is the land of many famous traditional handicrafts like fishing in the coastal communes, enriching iron ore and forging in Nho Lam, bronze casting in Dien Thap, ploughshares casting in Dien Ky, shipbuilding in Thanh Bich, fish sauce processing in Van Phan, silk weaving in Phuong Lich. The district is also developed in trade and services.
Dien Chau is the land full of cultural traditions. The district has Hai Vai limestone mountain – a national beauty relic, the Cuong Temple – a national cultural and historical relic and Hien Estuary. It still has the archaeological site of Dong Mom – Ta Forest (in Dien Tho commune) – a cradle of the humankind attracting many domestic and international archaeologists to come for excavation and research. Dien Thanh sea is an ideal sea tourism resort for thousands turns of visitors each year. The Bung River has come to local folk-songs, poetry and ditties.
In the recent years, under the leadership of the district Party’s Committee and the management of the People’s Committee, Dien Chau district has been prosperous. There are effective factories and enterprises operating in Dien Chau. Many programmes and projects have been and to be invested in the district. 11 enterprises and 18 private businesses have been invested over VND60 billion in the small scaled industrial park of Dien Hong (10 hectares) for developing the careers like mechanics serving agricultural production, processing farm produce, producing construction materials, recycling domestic plastics.
Dien Thanh sea tourism resort of 110 hectares already has been fulfilled with five projects capitalised at nearly VND50 billion and many small ones. Apart from that, five traditional handicraft villages of the district recognised by the provincial People’s Committee include bamboo and rattan weaving village in Xuan Tinh (Dien Loc), silk weaving in Tan Tien (Dien Kim), fresh rice noodle in Huynh Duong (Dien Kim), fish sauce in Van Phan (Dien Ngoc) and brooms making in Thai Loan (Dien Doai). Currently, Dien Chau district is developing small scaled industrial parks of 5-10 hectares in the Cuong Temple, Dien Ky, Dien Thap, Dien Xuan and Dien Ngoc. Especially, the district has worked out the plan and is calling for investment in the tourism zones of Cuong Temple – Hien Estuary of 500 hectares, Hon Cau sea resort of 100 hectares (Dien Hai), Hai Vai limestone beauty spot and Xuan Duong ecological tourism zone.
With favourable natural conditions and infrastructure as well as the hospitality and clear mechanism, Dien Chau is a tourism destination and a promised land for investors.
