Department of Information Technology with Ten Years’ Development

With a function of developing human resources for the information technology field, meeting the socio-economic development, the Department of Information Technology under the University of Technology , the Hanoi National University has experienced ten years’ development as a leading training information technology centre in Vietnam .  

 

Over the past decade, the department has made a significant contribution to the development of human resources of Vietnam ’s information technology. So far, the department has trained 1,740 people and now has 1,650 students. Each year, students of the department win awards at domestic and international contests on information technology. Apart from training, the department’s lecturers implement research works, some of which have applied in Vietnam and won prestigious awards in Vietnam , such as VIFOTECH and Vietnam Intellect.  

 

The department’s training programmes have been updated regularly with four fields, including personal computer, information system, network and computer communication and software. At the same time, each year, the department upgrades its training programmes to meet the demand of the integration progress, helping its students access modern programmes in the region and the world. The department has co-operated with prestigious universities in the world, including the Jaist Institute in Japan , the University of Pohang in the Republic of Korea , and University of Grenoble, France , in training and research.  

 

The department is one of the units, which have benefited from major projects, including a World Bank-sponsored project on upgrading information technology infrastructure. Talking about the department’s development orientations in the 2005-2010, head of the department, Associate Professor and Doctor of Science Trinh Nhat Tien, said that the department had set a target of developing as the leading department of the University of Technology in 2007 and reaching the regional and international standards in 2010.
